25 years later, Dawn French and Dame Darcey Bussell reunite and talk ballet for Royal Academy of Dance fundraiser

This piece of greatness just in from and courtesy of the Royal Academy of Dance…. Dawn French and Dame Darcey Bussell have reunited to reminisce about their famous ballet sketch in The Vicar Of Dibley called “The Mirror” 25 years on, and said it helped to demonstrate dance is “there for everybody”. The comedian and the […]

    Happy 87th, Dame Judi Dench!

If it wasn’t the case before, I’m now fully convinced that if you looked up the definition of brilliant in the dictionary, there would simply be a photo of Dame Judi Dench. The Oscar/Tony/BAFTA/Laurence Olivier/Golden Globe/Screen Actors Guild award winner turns 87 years young today and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. […]

Once again, giving thanks this Thanksgiving for family, friends, loyal Tellyspotting readers, good health and MiniBoots, in addition to ‘The Prisoner’ and ‘Monty Python’s Flying Circus’’

In addition to stopping for a moment to be eternally thankful for family, friends, avid and first-time Tellyspotting readers, good health and our cat, MiniBoots, no Thanksgiving would be complete without recognizing the contributions made by two classic British series in not only setting me on a lifelong desire of wanting to consume all things British when […]

Once again, Christmas Day in the U.K. proves to be THE place for destination telly in 2021

Contrary to their North American colleagues to the west, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day have long given rise to the fact that these three days could possibly be the most important days in the UK for telly watching all year. Historically, each and every year, both the BBC and ITV pull out all […]

A pre-‘Grantchester’ Robson Green once topped the UK charts with Robson & Jerome

From the ‘Department of Who-Knew’ comes today’s post about the singing career of a pre-Grantchester Robson Green. Turns out that in November 1994, in an episode of the UK television drama series Soldier Soldier, actors Robson Green and Jerome Flynn performed “Unchained Melody” as an impromptu duo The Unrighteous Brothers after the entertainment failed to appear at a wedding. Their […]

Celebrating National Sandwich Day 2021 with the pride of Great Britain!

If you find yourself finally winding down your National Cat Day 2021 celebration and wondering what you will be doing next to fill the void, not to worry! Wednesday was National Sandwich Day in the States so, if you’re like me and you need a well-deserved break from well, most everything in 2020 and 2021, and are wondering the best way to celebrate the 303rd birthday of the 4th Earl of Sandwich, what better way than with the beloved Bacon Butty, the pride of Great Britain.

‘Lady Grey’ of the DeVere Tortworth Hotel wishes her subjects around the world a Happy National Cat Day!

Back in September 2019, one of our last pre-COVID trips featured a memorable one-night stay at the DeVere Tortworth Court Hotel in Wotten-Under-Edge, just north of Bristol. Our brief overnight stay back was topped off by an appearance by the one and only Lady Grey, who graced us with her presence before heading out to secure the perimeter. As you can see, while she did allow us to pet her, she wasn’t all that happy to pose for the camera while on duty.

  • 42 years ago, 42 became the literary answer to life, the universe and everything

42 years ago, 42 became the literary answer to life, the universe and everything

It was 42 years ago this month where the literary world learned the answer to life, the universe and everything. While the face of radio comedy changed forever back in March of 1978, it was October of 1979 that Douglas Adams unleashed Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, as a book, on the world. While, as a society, we tend to celebrate anniversaries like 40th or 50th such as high school reunions commonplace, I prefer a 42nd anniversary of H2G2 for obvious reasons. Until next time, so long and thanks for all the fish.

Just in case you’re in the market for a used Mini Moke with TV experience…

If you happen to have recently lost out on acquiring The Blackadder Pub, the 1972 Reliant Regal Supervan III used in Only Fools and Horses, the original Fallen Madonna with the Big B**bies painting from ‘Allo ‘Allo, a rare 1966 Dalek or Dibley Manor from Vicar of Dibley, there’s still hope that you can own a piece of British telly history as one of two […]
