A Being Human St. Georges Day tribute
Happy St. Georges Day
Even though it’s not an official bank holiday (yet) in England and evil things are said to occur on St. George’s Day in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, it’s a time for celebration. Generally observed by nations around the world of which Saint George is the patron saint, 23 April is recognized as the date of Saint George’s death in 303 AD. Also known as the dragon-slaying patron saint of England, St. George shares his day with William Shakespeare who was born on 23 April 1564 and died on the same day in 1616.
While a dedicated group of unpaid volunteers have taken it upon themselves to promote England’s national day and lobby MPs and local Councils to celebrate St. George’s Day with a bank holiday, I thought it would be an appropriate time (with no disrespect intended to either England or the real St. George) to pay tribute to another famous British “George” from the greatness of Being Human. Yes, he was a werewolf, but still…worthy of a bank holiday, don’t you think?
As most loyal fans will remember, George (Russell Tovey) departed the series at the beginning of the fourth series following an off-schedule, partial werewolf transformation gone bad which led to a final confrontation with the local vampire coven. Trust me, it was brilliant.
So…a Happy St. Georges Day to all as we take a look back on everyone’s favorite George from Being Human. Good luck on the bank holiday petition.
